Grade 10
The Paschal Mystery and the Church
Why there is evil and how God answers it, why Jesus died and what His Resurrection means, the Holy Spirit and the Church as Body of Christ, the four marks of the Church, how the Church is led, and the Last Things: death, judgment, heaven, purgatory and hell.
Your path through the book
1. God's Plan and the Mystery of Evil
God created a good world and made us free; evil entered through misused freedom, but God's plan of salvation is stronger.
2. Why the Cross?
By His Passion and death, Jesus freely offered Himself out of love as the perfect sacrifice that reconciles us with God.
3. Risen, Ascended, Coming Again
Christ's Resurrection is a real event and the foundation of our faith; He ascended to the Father and will come again in glory.
4. The Holy Spirit, Giver of Life
The Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, was poured out at Pentecost and gives life to the Church and to each believer.
5. The Church: Body of Christ
The Church is the People of God, the Body of Christ and the Temple of the Holy Spirit: the sacrament of salvation for the world.
6. One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic
The Church Christ founded is one, holy, catholic and apostolic; it subsists in the Catholic Church and is sent to all people.
7. How Christ Leads His Church
Christ leads His Church through the Pope and bishops, served by priests and deacons, while religious and laypeople share the mission in their own ways.
8. The Last Things
Death, judgment, heaven, purgatory and hell are real; Christians face them with hope in Christ, who will make all things new.
