The first three commandments are all about loving God.
First: “I am the Lord your God; you shall not have strange gods before me.” We put God first and worship Him alone. An idol is anything we put ahead of God, such as money, games, screens or wanting to be popular. Superstitions and fortune-telling also go against this commandment, because we trust God, not luck.
Second: “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.” God's name is holy. We use it with love, in prayer and praise, never as a curse or a joke. We also keep our promises, and we respect our own names, which we received at Baptism.
Third: “Remember to keep holy the Lord's Day.” Sunday is the day of the Resurrection. Catholics go to Mass every Sunday and on holy days of obligation. We also make Sunday a day of rest, family time and kindness.
Keeping God first does not take anything good away from us. It puts everything else in its right place.
